Verizon and Redbox team up to battle Netflix- Feb 6, 2012

Mostly everyone around us watches movies and enjoys doing so. Some enjoy going out to the movies for a date or just to get out, others prefer staying in and renting a movie on demand or from redbox. There has always been competition between what movie service is more efficient and easy, Netflix or on Verizon on demand. Coinstar CFO Scott Di Valerio stated “With Redbox, you get this great new-release content.” This is a fact. Redbox has all the newest and hottest movies on the market stored in their little machines nationwide while Netflix has mediocre movies online but is only a low $8 dollars per month. Scott Di Valerio took one jab at Netflix simply recognizing their lack of “new content”. Since Netflix is so cheap, even though there movies aren’t up to par, they remain on top and stay dominant over Verizon and Redbox. I personally like Netflix better because it is more easy and efficient to use. If they don’t have the money you want, you can simply order the movie of your choice and keep it for as long as you want. Also with Redbox, you have to get out and drive to receive your movie only to have to bring it back the next day. Not to mention you are charged an additional fee every day that passes without returning it. Verizon is obtainable through your TV online which is easy access. On the other hand, each movie that is a new release is $5 for every purchase. Mine as well go see it on the big screen and pay the extra dollar or two for better quality and sound. Redbox and Verizon’s streaming service will leverage content provider relationships that Verizon has managed to build up through its VCast streaming video success for mobile cell phones. It will also take advantage of Redbox’s 28,000 kiosks around the world to supplement streaming video options. This may not be as good as Netflix’s idea of never having to leave your house for a movie, but at least Verizon and Redbox customers will not have to wait a day or two for the mail to arrive. I personally believe that Netflix will always remain on top even due to the alliance between Verizon and Redbox. Netflix will work out their flaws and continue to be dominant.
