Microsoft, the company that brought us computer products, Xbox, and now Kinect, has been working to develop a new product that could change the way we use our laptops. The Kinect system that has been made available to Xbox users is soon to be available in laptops. Imagine if we could scroll through our computers with a swipe of our hand. Many other companies have been working to develop similar devices. SoftKinetic has a similar product out on the market that has many similarities, but the biggest difference between the two is that the SoftKinetic product can be used as close as “5.9 inches away”. Other electronics providers have taken an interest in this subject. LG and Samsung are working on this “gesture recognition” and also voice controls. This Kinect laptop is projected to arrive with the release of Windows 8.
This product is an amazing contribution to the evolution of technology. Not only do we have these super computers that can do almost anything we wish them to, but now companies working on “gesture recognition” is just amazing. If we could access files on our computer completely hands free using only our voice and gesture, more doors would open into videogames, robotics, and manufacturing processes.
